The Bagmoth Caterpillar And The Iris

I've been keeping my eye on the bagmoth caterpillars and as the summer draws to a close I can see lots of them on the ground around their favourite bush. There are no signs of life with these ones on the ground so I think they're dead. There are still some in the bush that are quite actively cutting twigs and making their bags bigger.

Today I found two that had migrated across the carpark to the Iris patch and had begun to chop parts of the iris leaf to add to their bags. You can see the transition from twigs to parts of flat iris leaf in the coloured shot. You can also see the effect its having on the iris leaf where it is attached, there is a big brown stain. I found the whole thing quite fascinating!!
