Art Date
H and I made a date for today to go see art at some of the galleries in town, a few with friends’ work.. (When I had a studio in this part of town I never missed a show. Now it seems to be a larger effort.) It was supposed to rain so H took his umbrella - instead, the sun came out and it was a great day to walk and look! So fun! We stopped to have a bite for dinner in one of the new trendy places - good we were early and got a seat at the bar, as it was booked - the professional people were there after work - the conversations were all about jobs and who was opening what new restaurant where. We did feel we were in a world so different from ours! The food was good but pricey and we were done in time for a leisurely walk up to the Art Museum for our 7PM lecture on American Art and the sculptor, Alexander Phimister Procktor and his bronze sculptures of the West including bronco busters. The fun part of this event was, that long after this lecture was planned, the Art Museum has received on loan from the Denver Art Museum a Remington bronze bucking bronco because the loser (the Denver Broncos) of that football event (superbowl) a while back made a deal to loan a piece of work to the winner. (and even weirder, this particular cast was #12- this Seattle audience loved it!) Not my favorite kind of art, but I learned a lot about it’s place in the world....there was NO American sculpture before 1850!
But the blip had to be from my spot in the bar since I doubt I will be ever be back in there! The digger seems to be everywhere all over Seattle streets. Our favorite NW Coast gallery is across the street. Not sure what this woman is doing --most everyone else that went by looked in...
A fine day!!
