Singing Festival (Yesterday)

Al told me today that at his school (the one that counts, that is) he is now considered to be a 'free reader'. This is a mammoth achievement on his part and reflects a Herculean effort from him and immense skills from his tutors. It means they no longer give him targeted books and track his reading. He reads what he likes and the days of school reading books are over.

It is something that two years ago I would not have thought possible and had Chris and I not made some tough choices, probably would not have been possible. I feel very proud of his efforts and so glad we trusted our instincts and did what we did.

Al loves learning, stories, jokes, rhymes, riddles, reading, singing, acting, writing and wants to be an author. Two years ago he hated all of those things and it wouldn't have thought he could be a writer in a million years.

We might have taken the road less travelled but we certainly did the right thing.
