Red Stars

Well, we got out this morning at quarter to six, but unfortuately, it was cloudy for the first time for a week or so. There was no real sunrise sky - it just got lighter and lighter, but remained grey, so while I took a couple of landscapes, the light was dull and there was nothing special about them.

What the light did, was to show the mosses and lichens off very well, so we concentrated on macro shots. There were lots of different mosses and lichens growing on the granite boulders and trees, so there was plenty of choice. If you're out, a lot of them are flowering at the moment - tiny little flowers which are very easy to miss, so it's worth looking closely at any moss you see.

For the last hour, a police helicopter was hovering around, over us, over the car park and round and about. We speculated about escaped prisoners, but decided that if there was an escaped prisoner, there would be police on the ground.

When we reached the road on the way back to the car park, we saw two policemen walking in the same direction as us. As we turned the corner, there were about seven police cars and a minibus, including dog handlers parked around the car. As we were putting our stuff into the car, an officer walked over and asked us about the car next to ours.

It turned out that a man had been reported missing the day before and the search was for him. Didn't hear anything about it on the local news, so don't know whether they found him or not. Hope they did. It's cold to be out on the moor all night.
