Lady's smock.......
or Cuckoo flower or Milkmaids...
This beautiful early spring flower has quite a few colloquial names, but even though it was always known as Milkmaids in my childhood, I think I like Lady's smock best of all. I think the way it froths and foams along the roadside verges, in a riot of exquisite pale purple and white looks just like the broderie anglaise on a lady's smock.
A member of the cabbage or Brassicaceae family Lady's smock Cardamine pratensis, is widespread throughout Europe, and very common in Sussex.
I have taken the shot this way because I think it shows the amazing pale mauve colour off much better than a conventional shot would do.
I hope you are all enjoying my trip through my local wild flowers.
