Black Tor Falls

If you follow the B3212 road out of Princetown towards Plymouth for about 2 miles, you will see to your left hand side Black Tor. Just below the Tor you will find the River Meavy and this little falls which I have always called Black Tor Falls.
The map shows a blowing houses nearby indication that this was used in the processing of tin ore. The one on the right bank contains several mortor stones bearing depressions on which the ore was ground, On the left bank there is the remains of a building with a doorway still standing and into the lintel above the door you can just make out the roman numerals, which I think read, XIII. I know no more history of the site except there is a great deal of streaming for tin in this area. I would expect that the water from the falls would have been used to drive a water wheel to drive equipment in these two mills

Ha ha, I've just noticed that this is my 800 blip
