Homeward bound

This is the last stage of most journeys home to Dunoon - unless we head north to Oban, most of our trips involve Glasgow or Edinburgh or further afield via Glasgow Airport, and every journey begins or ends here, on the Western Ferries. This is the moment of boarding, on a wet evening as the dusk takes over from the gloom that has prevailed all day. The wind is blowing the waves all the way up the river, but these boats are great at bashing their way across in most weathers. This is one of the newer boats; when Western first started doing this crossing the boats were much smaller, slower and narrower and rolled alarmingly and sick-makingly while lorries and buses keeled over on their suspension on the deck.

Tonight we were over before we knew it - a scant 20 minutes. Last night, after the concert, the crossing took only 14 minutes.
