A Pelican Rescue
An exciting afternoon at the fish market. A bird wildlife rescuer showed up with a bucket full of fish. She was trying to capture 2 injured pelicans.
She got some help from a worker at the fish company. She uses the bait-fish, and tosses them WAY out into the water. The plan is...that the healthy ones fly to the thrown fish...and the injured ones stay behind. Then...the helper tosses the net.
I know the picture looks bad...but they carefully bring the net up, separate the healthy from the injured...release the healthy...then work on the injured.
One bird had a large hook in its breast, and the other ones leg was wrapped in fishing line. Both captured...both fixed up...both released. It's refreshing to see the look of satisfaction on the ladies face. You can just tell that she really enjoys helping the birds.
I took a lot of pictures today. A lot of bird flyers, and 4 pictures of a group of plein air painters that were "working" at the neighboring seafood restaurant. Such talent. Wish I could do it.
Have a look at the rescue, and the other shots on my FLICKR PAGE.
I still hope to catch up with your journals. My daughter and son left tonight at 7 p.m., so now all of our company have left...leaving just Lisa and I. And...Lisa is flying home on Monday.
I'm not sure how long I'll stay after the Big Blip Meet next Friday. Play it by ear...I guess.
