Tidying the thatch
I spoke too soon yesterday about the arrival of Spring. Today has been grey, chill and windy and worse, every time I tried to get outdoors it rained. Coming back from a very short walk on the beach, the sun briefly came out low and beneath the clouds giving a bright light with a glowering grey back-drop. This white croft is just opposite North Ford from us and with Eaval in the background is always photogenic.
That it might be but at a cost. I fear that the traditional marram thatch requires regular maintenance. It is great however to see each year more of these traditional buildings taking life again.
Otherwise a few hours on my repairs of the "sea" wall in front of us and one section - sadly less than half - is taking shape. The problem is increasingly I'm running out of stones for the rest and are having to scour far and wide to get more.
