Bringing in the Baitfish

Lisa and I dropped our daughter and grandson off at the Tampa airport at noon. Poor Merrick was sick. He coughed for the last 2 nights, and was running a temperature. Not a great combo for 4-5 hours in the air.

On our way home, we stopped at Fort Desoto Park. We usually see dolphins there. BUT...I FORGOT MY CAMERA!!! I did have my back-up...but it is so s-l-o-w that it drives me nuts. Dolphins don't wait for slow cameras to focus.

It was quite a scene on the long pier. There was such a big school of sardines that they made the water appear to be black. Plus...schools of mackerel were chasing the sardines. Then...the net fishermen were also trying to catch the sardines.

If you look in large...you can see that the cooler is already full (they went to get 2 more coolers), and that the net coming over the railing is full, too. It was so heavy that it took 4 men to pull it up.

If I would have been a fisherman...I might have been more excited. As it was...for me...it was just good drama.

A few more pictures are on my FLICKR PAGE. A bad dolphin shot, and a couple of unknown sandpiper-type birds.

Tomorrow (hopefully), we will get to see our Detroit Tigers play the New York Yankees. (It's supposed to rain.)

P.S. My son Jeff and I played a round of golf this afternoon. It was fun...but PLEASE don't ask about our scores.
