The Beginning of My 'Countdown' Week
Days to clean, sort and pack,
Good-byes to winter friends who
shared our bliss once more

My first farewell this week went to my Glorious Quilters at the Lutheran Church. They will only continue for another month, then disband until the snowbirds return in the fall. The big room we use to quilt in should be even bigger when I come back. The church has been fund-raising for some time for these additions and improvements. Our group is hoping for a nice, big storage area that we do not share with other groups. All those quilts and quilting supplies take up a lot of room!
I roared back home in time for my appointment with the contractor who installed my kitchen counter tops in December 2012. He took his photos of the joins I'm concerned about and promised that the home improvement center would be calling me. I didn't bother to inform him that they've already told me it is HIS to deal with as their "one year warantee" is now passed. Clearly, counter tops are meant to last more than one year without failures, so someone is going to have to step up here shortly. Under Arizona law I have 2 years to file against a company.
D has been waiting on his new glasses from the optical shop in Los Algodones, Mexico. They said twelve business days and it has been fourteen. So, after the contractor left this morning we grabbed our passports and headed for Mexico. Big mix-ups there as they'd had some problems with materials not arriving for them. So, no glasses today either. We're promised they will be delivered here to the house in Yuma late in the day tomorrow. Fingers crossed!
I stopped in the back lane for a silver necklace. Our favourite vendor, Antonio, always sweetens the deal with other things. Today, I have a bracelet too. We felt rushed as we looked to the street along the border to see the return line to the US customs growing steadily. We got in line on this very warm, sunny day. The wait for us was about forty minutes. We had our water bottles and were duly entertained by a young man with a guitar and pan flute. It is hard to ignore the begging but we are advised not to contribute.
Lunch was prime rib at the casino on the California side on our route home. It is always a favourite. Lots of seniors in the casino today. I am constantly surprised at how many walkers and oxygen tanks I see there too.
There were a couple of stops in Yuma, then home.
We have an invitation for lunch on Thursday with our wonderful neighbours.
