Walking on Bearsted Golf Course
The best day of the year so far, 18C and a cloudless blue sky, what a change and more to come I hope in the week ahead.
The morning was spent by me cleaning 2 cars while Susan got stuck in with the back garden. After lunch we took advantage of the superb weather to walk around the golf course for the first time this year and on to the Woodland Trust and finally to Mallards Lake.
I've long admired this row of poplar trees and have sought unsuccessfully, in all seasons to capture their form and the shadows they cast. There were some good opportunities last winter with snow on the ground and sharp shadows projected by low winter sun, but somehow I couldn't capture it.
We've walked the golf course many times, almost all in summer but the most memorable was just before Christmas in 2010 when there had been a heavy fall of snow and it lay think and even on the ground. We walked around the course in the dark with everything still and silent and the glow from the windows of a nearby cottage provinding a focus of warmth and safety.
But it was a good walk rewarded by a slice of the last remnents of the Christmas cake. Very good it was too, just one more portion each left methinks.
