Red-shafted Northern Flicker is a year around resident in our region. They are among the more colorful birds in the yard, eating ants, fruit, seeds. According to the guide book, their calls include woika woika woika, long series of repeated kuk- notes, and a piercing keeww. I like their unique colors and patterns.
