For Forties Film & Football Fans

Ann has been going through a collection of postcards sent to her relatives from before and right through WW1 for the Sharing Stories of the Great War event being held at the RSC on Saturday. She also looked through her grandfather’s account book for the wholesale fruit and veg stall he ran in Birmingham market during the 1920’s and found, towards the back, lists of 1940’s films and football teams.

We think these were written by her Uncle John, a twin of her father, who meticulously wrote out every film he saw in 1940, including the name of the cinema he went to, plus what he considered the best films for the years 1940 – 1944.

Although I wasn’t born then, honest, I remember quite a few of the titles.
