Feed the Birds . .

Might have been "tuppence a bag" in Mary Poppins' day, but it's a penny or two more these days! I don't begrudge them as I do love watching them on the bird table and feeders and digging about in the freshly turned earth too.

Because they roost in the big hebe hedge, we can easily have between 20 and 30 sparrows in the garden as well as plenty of starlings. The blackbirds and I are having a bit of a tussle at the moment. They spend all day scratching the earth out of the tubs, I sweep it up and put it back in every morning, and then they can have the fun of digging it out out again! They get their beaks in there and their feet and fling it all over the place!

Suddenly they all vanish into the hedge and it goes deadly quiet as a sparrow hawk flashes through the garden. They are beautiful birds, but not what you want around a bird table. Not the best photo I've ever taken as it's through the window . .
