The Valley Road
Bruce Hornsby and the Range 1988
Today was one of my favourite days.
We rose at REALLYsillynobreakfasto'clock to rock and roll in the truck over to Dune 45 near Sossusvlei for sunrise. Much fun overtaking a couple of other truck all heading in the same directions...proper traffic! I really didn't have appropriate shoes for this so it took me a good 45 mins to get to the top but it was well worth it, the views and the light were stunning. I'll load some pics from there in my folio shortly. Back down about 7 for the best brekkie of the fortnight, the guys did us really proud with eggsnamib - eggs, peppers, sweetcorn topped off with a wodge of cheese, needless to say there was not a scrap left.
Then we jiggled down the road a few miles to a parking spot for another mile or so walk through a desert environment looking at lizards, hunners of animal tracks in the sand and orxy in the distance and again the most amazing early morning light really intensifying the colours in the landscape. Trecked on for a while without a clue what we were actually heading FOR, up hill a couple of hundred yards and hold it, crash bang wallop what a picture. The tracks are 30 years old from when 4x4s used to be allowed in the Hidden Vlei (Valley), the clay has dried and they're likely going to be there for another 30. Short pause to try and take in the beauty then we skittled down the side of the dune to get closer views.
Blip paradise or wot?
