Madame Swan and Her Spoonbill Friend

We have a serious drought here at the moment and have had no rain at all since December 1st last year. Actually the whole of the south west corner of Western Australia is affected as the rain pattern has radically changed over the last few years, its very worrying for all of us!

The water in the nearby lake is at its lowest I've ever seen and it does look very forlorn and awful! Workers from the local council have been pulling the visible rubbish out of the shallows which is a good thing and there are lots of plastic things, bottles, a whole bike and other assorted bike wheels, branches and various other rubbish mounting up on parts of the shore.

As I went past late this afternoon with Toto I was very happy to see this lovely Spoonbill and Madame Black Swan having a friendly chat in one of the cleaner areas.
