A Saturday in Manchester

We stayed over in Manchester after the first evening of the festival and, as the shows didn't recommence until 4pm, today, that left us with pretty much a whole day to enjoy ourselves in the city. That said, one way or another, we didn't find ourselves on the tram until very late morning. Arriving at St Peter's Square we had a quick squabble but whether or not we had planned to go shopping (we had) and, if so, who had changed the plans at the last minute (me).

With the Minx grumbling her way down Oxford Road, we made our way to The Deaf Institute, at which point we found ourselves fully restored to good cheer as we settled down behind a couple of coffees and ordered some (very late) breakfast. The Minx read while I blogged until our food arrived. Deaf is absolutely my favourite place to eat and drink in Manchester: the atmosphere is great, the food is superb and the staff are unfailingly cheerful.

We had a couple more coffees before switching to red wine, just before Kerry arrived. When I am feeling a little fed up with Twitter, I stop to think of all the wonderful people I wouldn't have met without it and Kerry is a stalwart of that list. We had a cracking time catching up with one another's news and we were just thinking making a move when @rochdalegirl, @bluegirl_66 and @lexiland71 all arrived. Perhaps it was the wine but I'm not entirely sure how this transpired or was organised but we stayed on for another drink before heading out to grab a taxi back to Salford Quays. You can read about our second evening at the festival here.
