View from the Janiculum Hill.
Early morning start this morning to get some images during the magic hour.
I always thought that Rome was built on Seven hills, but actually there are ten hills.
The usual list of seven hills include, the Esquine, Palatine, Aventine, Capitoline, Quirinal, Viminal, and Caelian hills. The other three are the Janiculan, Pincian and Vatican hills.
My early morning walk took me to the Janiculan hill which is to the south of the city, giving excellent views over the city. This city is simply full of history, while i'm looking ahead over the city, behind me is the striking monument of Garibaldi mounted on his horse, over to the left of me is the Lighthouse, which was a gift to the city of Rome in 1911, from Italians living in Argentina. There is also a cannon which is fired every day at exactly 12 oclock noon, to signal the exact moment for the churches of Rome to start ringing their bells, a tradition which started in 1847.
Ahead of me in the distance is the gleaming white Vittorio Emmanuele Monument, other notable buildings are, the Parthenon, the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, numerous churches, and the city's famous Synagogue.
After spending over an hour taking in the view from the hill i had a gentle walk back to the hotel for a bite to eat before starting a day of sightseeing.
