Athens, The City of Gods.
Athens like Rome is a city that simply overflows with history, and as a consequence these cities attract tourists in huge numbers, so during the day these tourists are everywhere.
So if you like your images full of tourists step out between the hours of 8am and 7pm, and you’ll have tourists in 95 % of your images.
Personally I can’t be doing with groups of people all with “Selfie Sticks” standing in front of monuments or in streets taking photos of themselves while making a “V” sign.... Really....!!
Get out onto the streets in the early hours, and although the roads are still roaring with traffic, there are very few pedestrians or tourists about.
My image today is a view through the “Arch of Hadrian”, locally known as Hadrian’s Gate. The building of the Gate began around 131 / 132 AD, and was built to celebrate the arrival of the Roman Emperor Hadrian and to honour him for his many benefactions to the city.
On view through the arch is The Acropolis, Syngrou Avenue runs past left to right.
The road opposite is called Lisikratous, at the top of which is the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates.
I will be back to stalk Hadrian’s Gate and try to get a decent image without tourist.
