Pow-Wow

Many colours bright
Feathers, bells, ribbons and beads
Sparkle in the sun

After brunch we took a quick trip over the Colorado River into California to see something of the 34th Annual Pow-Wow in Winterhaven. It was the end of the three day event so things were winding down. The start of the weekend had included a storm that blew over from California, so the schedule of events was a bit skewed.

My favourite event was the dancing by the 'tiny tots'. Each little dancer received a gift bag for their efforts. They walked away with smiles on their faces. They were followed by the men's grass dance. After three consecutive songs the judges narrowed the group to three men. Together, they danced once more. The winner received a splendid lone star quilt as a prize. He was draped in the quilt, then he walked away to shake hands with each of the other dancers in his category.
