Legs!
Gavin took Luke to Reigate this morning as he was playing in the Reigate Rugby 7's tournament, which is a premier event for schools in Surrey, Kent, Sussex and SE London. I had to get Thomas to his club rugby and get other things done so had planned to get to Luke's tournament in time to see the quarter final match which we presumed they would reach.
It was very cold in the wind, and although sunny at first it soon turned to rain - in other words, bloody awful weather for standing on the side of an exposed pitch. The quarter final match was so exciting, and they won convincingly, so I decided to stay for the semi-final. Bad luck, they were drawn against the strongest team of the day who so far had also beat all their opponents. Oh well, we thought, at least we could go home soon and get out of the cold rain. But against all odds they won! We were so excited that they were now in the final, we could barely contain our delight.
They were drawn against their old nemesis in the final, a team who had beaten them at the start of the rugby season last autumn, and had remained unbeaten all season. The boys were fired up and ready for their revenge match and we stood shivering in the rain, cheering them on. And guess what? they won! They won the tournament and took home a beautiful silver cup presented to them by Joe Launchbury, the England player.
This photo is of Luke's friend who played so brilliantly throughout the day he won the cup for player of the tournament. You can see more shots of these muddy rugby players here.
