Architectural harmony
This is a detail of the Belle Epoque building, The Hotel du Portugal, in the village. The other hotels were swept away by the terrible flood of 1940. It is open once a year for visits and has some sumptuous rooms but only a 2* rating as it does not have the mod cons people expect these days. It is now owned by the Ministry of Defence and, unfortunately, it is only open to those who have worked for the Ministry.
We had our friends Davis and Lesley around for lunch as they will soon be homeless and so will use our house in our absence. He is the local vicar and is has been building his house single handed since October. At 66 that is quite an undertaking. He has had to move from house to house as parishioners and friends' houses become temporarily available. At least his roof is on and he hopes at least to be able to camp in it in around six weeks. I think he has done marvellously well.
