The winking man
We've been to Derbyshire between Leek and Buxton where you drive past the outcrop of rocks known as The Roaches. The famous Winking Man sadly didn't wink for us today, nor did we see any Buzzards or anything much else for that matter! The weather got worse and worse the higher we drove. We left the main road a few miles before Buxton as Mr. T wanted to have a look at the old Staffs Gliding Club which was once situate on top of one of the hill ranges but has now moved to a more accessible site near Stafford. The weather got even worse the further off the beaten track we went; the pub near the old Gliding Club was no longer operating and everywhere was shrouded in an eerie mist.
We didn't do any walking and I couldn't take any decent photos so we drove back down the mountainous route and stopped at The Winking Man Pub where we had a very welcome Sunday lunch. I took this sad view of Cat Tor from the pub carpark and nearly got blown away.
Despite the weather we've had a very nice day and look forward to returning to this lovely area where there is some great walking to be had and pictures to be taken.
I'm off to band practise again now.
