Ruins
Further on our journey in Tasmania if you had been following my daily blips, finds us in Beaconsfield north of Launceston.
Gold was discovered there in the mid 1800's and a mine was duly established. Here you see the ruined wall of the original mine that fell into disrepair after it ceased to operate late last century. it was rebuilt on an adjacent site after the gold price escalated.
Unfortunately a serious underground accident resulted in the death of a miner and two others were trapped for some period of time.
A miraculous rescue was effected and both were brought to the surface alive but the mine was subsequently closed and remains only as a tourist attraction.
