Two Herons Nesting

I got an early start and it's another blue sky day so makin hay!!! Took the hooligans out with me to see the Heron progress as they nest at the Marymoor dog park. Many have staked claim to the nests already there for the past three years, but they seem to be adding to them and doing some nestcleaning! They poke and prod new twigs and materials into the older nests. It's all fascinating.

Yesterday afternoon I went to the Sundance theaters to see two of the Oscar nominated "shorts" in the documentary category. I saw Cavedigger and Prisoner Terminal: The Last Days of Private Jack Hall. Both were incredibly powerful films and very different . The Cave Digger one just blew me away. He takes hand tools and a wheelbarrow and carves cathedral structures into the sandstone New Mexico walls out in the countrysides. He's been doing this for the past 25 years. He is usually privately commissioned to do so for people who plan to live in what he digs out--and he turns them all into pieces of art---phenomenal and I can't describe them and do justice to them here! see Cavedigger here

This afternoon I'm heading back to see the other three short films that have been nominated. I was equally moved by the Prisoner Terminal film leaving with a profound frustration as to why our prisons are so full of elderly people who probably don't belong there in the first place, but certainly not anymore. Prison reform is so badly needed here in the U.S.

Enjoy the weekend!!!! I believe our weather ---good stuff that is--is about to switch back to cold and rainy. Snow predicted up north again upon my Bellingham friends.
