Baxter Park Pavilion

As part of my work with the Children's Panel, I spent the morning 'shadowing' a Social Work Unit which deals with unborn babies and babies up to one year old. A major problem they have to deal with is mothers who are taking drugs, which clearly impacts on the unborn baby and the mother's ability to cope once the baby is born. Often the Social Workers have to make a recommendation that the baby be taken into care and we, on the Panel, have to make the decision as to whether this should be carried out. It is never easy, but we have to consider the child's best interest at all times.

Afterwards, it being a beautiful day, I headed for Baxter Park to photograph the Pavilion, which is a beautiful Listed Building.

The Pavilion and Park were gifted to the people of Dundee by prominent flax mill owners, the Baxter family in 1863. The park was laid out by one of the great innovators and achievers of the 19th century, Sir Joseph Paxton and the pavilion was designed by his son in law, George Henry Stokes.
The historic glass fronted Italianate Pavilion positively shines in its restoration and brings classical grandeur to the park. It is situated in the midst of 38 acres of mature parkland and is reached through grand entrance gates and sweeping lawns. The Pavilion is now used for Weddings and is a beautiful location.
