Victorian Drinking Fountain
It was a beautiful day as we set out for the south side of the River Tay. Came across this Fountain which overlooks some spectacular views of the Tay and Dundee. It was designed and built by Walter MacFarlane’s Saracen Ironworks, Glasgow and gifted to Newport-on-Tay by Blyth Martin, a member of a Dundee jute family, in 1882, at a time when not all households had easy access to a pure water supply.
We had Lunch in the Manna Cafe, which is run by volunteers under the auspices of the local Church of Scotland, and helps to raise funds to support a Youth Worker. We found ourselves in the middle of a knitting group which meets on Thursdays - Eleanor being quite tempted to join them on future days.
It was such a marvelous day for taking photos so you can go on over to my Flikr set, if you want to see views of the Tay and other spots.
