A few years ago I studied Patanjali's Yoga Sutras with Jennifer, and I miss them, so today we began again at the beginning. This is the first sutra, which is meant to sum up the entire treatise.

Atha yoga anushasanam.
The practice of yoga begins now. (Now is the first and therefore the most important word.)

With Jennifer's help, in 2011 I translated some of the Yoga Sutras from Sanskrit into English haiku form. Here is the first sutra, or verse.

Begin: be here now —
yoga connects everything —
practicing, you learn.

Yesterday's acupuncture treatment helped my cold a little, and today's restorative yoga session helped too. Haven't been able to work on my novel since last Saturday, which is frustrating, but I can feel my energy gathering strength.
