Manchester Royal Exchange
I really LOVE this theatre.
It was largely destroyed by the Manchester IRA bombing, but its reconstruction resulted in what I adore as the restoration of the old façade of the building but with an amazingly creative internal theatre, which provides a fabulous in the round stage, wonderful lighting and a really wonderful atmosphere within the building. I have been to many many performances here and seldom seen a poor one. But, for those who don't know Manchester, or for those who do but haven't been in, dip into here from the buzz of St Annes Square and you step into a lovely calming oasis,,,even on a busy Saturday. Handy to know if you just need the loo ( like me today between work meetings and car parks) or if you want a quiet little bar, café, or a wonderful craft shop displaying Mancunian artist talent and fab jewellery! This was taken from the staircase of the Ladies loo....and I haven't done anything to the colours....the lighting is like being inside a stained glass window.
Outside was drab and wet, work is hard, how lovely was this interlude.
I've always loved theatres...one of my first jobs was as an ushertte girl at the risqué Everyman Theatre in Liverpool in the 70's, I was 16,....first time I saw a naked man....they could have warned me...I nearly dropped my tray of Kiora and Mivi Ice Creams !!! :)
