London

Hi Tom

I had a day off work today which was so nice. We decided to go into London. We left home at midday as things needed to be done before we went.

I wanted to go up the Shard as it was a lovely clear day but we never booked tickets before we left so was unlucky with that one.

We then went off to Borough Market which was packed but really interesting. Behind the market is the beautiful Southwark Cathedral....which again was packed with people picnicking.

We walked along the South Bank and that's when I took this. It's Southwark bridge and you can see St Paul's in the background. Everywhere was buzzing today. There are some very interesting places and lots of nice eateries along South Bank.

We went into The Tate Modern. Dad went last week to see the Klee exhibition which is being held there and really enjoyed it....I now wanted to see it too. Once again I didn't have a ticket which meant a longish wait, so didn't do that either.

While we were in The Tate Modern we did have a bit of a look around. All I can say is mmmmmm....We weren't in there long!

Found a lovely place to have a drink and a bite to eat along the river.

We walked across the Millennium Bridge over to St Paul's. Dad has never been into St. Paul's but I have. Unfortunately because time wasn't on our side we only had time for a quick look around as the Evensong was about to start. We stayed for a while then wandered off to get something to eat.

On the way home we stopped at Costa for a coffee then at The Star for a drink.

We both agreed it was a bit if a disappointing trip in a way as we felt we hadn't really done anything in particular. Lesson learnt....buy tickets before you go and plan what we are going to do.
