Between fen and mountains

Market men

I bought my mussels and squash for soup early but, so sunny was the day, I decided to return to the village square later for a stroll. As it was quietening down I was accosted by Patrique, the poissonier, who noticed my camera. After the requisite teasing and banter, he called over his friend the wine seller and Adi, our Dutchman who sells his salads and bits and pieces from his smallholding every Saturday. The market is a friendly place to be. The only drawback is that it is not a trip to do in a hurry. People expect you to stop and chat and all the important local information is exchanged. At the moment, the Mayoral municipal lists and the opening of the new bar and restaurant are hot topics.
Rugby this afternoon and a meal out with friends this evening. A good day in prospect.
