Feb 21st 2009 - Markets and more

Some of the group had a 6am start to go visit the animal market. Hilde, Sally, Soren, Josefine, Louise Sk, Camilla, Sara, Katja and I went to market and as squeals of distressed pigs cut through the air I think we all felt a some kind of affect. Pigs were being dragged and kicked, birds were stuffed into tiny cages and goats were bundled about. The stench was incredible with hundreds of animals making their mess, the smell of fresh waste was rank within the air. After that morning I can be certain that I will never turn vegetarian!

We returned for pancakes (and the rest of the group) before heading to the main market. It was massive with a beautiful range of cloths and crafts for sale. I spent he vast majority of the time with Chloe and brought a Panana Hat, a Quichwa sun mask, a drawing and a scarf. Though if I had any musical talent then I would have brought a little armadillo guitar!

The rest of the day was spent travelling back to Quito (playing a celebrity guessing game with Chloe, Tara and Sophie) before catching up with Katchi and Rachel. Soren and I were then back to Mama Olga’s before we joined Katja and Louise Sk for an evening drink before getting ready to head to the cloud rainforest in the morning.
