Feb 20th 2009 - Cheese!
Pancakes with fruit and chocolate sauce gave a great start to the day before our trip to Moraspungo, a small indigenous village of around 200 people. We visited a day care and I got a lovely reception as a child cried when they saw my face, and then when we visited the school grounds the children danced for us (like usual it seems). We were then shown where the village bake their bread but I was distracted by some little children (the ones in the blip).
The kids were cautious at first but were intrigued by my camera and loved playing with it. They were so happy when viewing photos they had taken or ones which they were in. They were so cute and happy that I had to give their mother a little for their keep, now I can consider it a little something for starring in my blip!
We had a presentation and another dance in the village before getting the opportunity to buy some of their crafts (the wallet I brought I still use now) before being given a ‘mishke mishke’ (Quichwa for delicious) chicken dinner. We finished our trip with a 3k walk (as the Nazul fly) to a gorgeous lake.
Back at the hostel I had some popcorn (still sweet) and an Irish Coffee with Sophie before we headed over to amazing traditional Ecuadorian restaurant called ‘Mi Otavalo’. The Sea Bass was the best I had tasted and it had some lovely live music to go along with our great meals. We then roasted marshmellows back at the hostel to end a wonderful day.
