Investment
An invitation to a handmade carpet auction seemed like a great way to end the week and the promise of cheese and wine and a catch up with friends was sufficient to get me there. I had absolutely no intention of bidding… really, no intention at all, non what so ever… and then I saw the carpets. A wonderful array of hand knotted, oriental carpets including kilims, village carpets, tribal carpets, prayer rugs, each painstakingly handmade from wool, silk and even bamboo.
The one in the picture is my special Herat tribal rug, a snip at $80.00 and easily brought home on my bike. My wonderful investment piece on the other hand was a little more than $80.00 and has to be delivered at a later date… I am possibly overcompensating for yesterday's disaster. Rice and water diet for me from now on!
Treasures made of the colours and textures of nature, and created by the hand and mind of man.
