The Flea Market

There is so much to
be found at the flea market.
Bargains are everywhere!

One of the noticeable features of Yuma is the flea markets. We have one indoor flea market that occupies a former retail store. We also have three outdoor flea markets.

The original flea market began in the old dog track. When racing greyhounds fell from favour, the large piece of real estate it sat on was a perfect location. There was lots of room and lots of parking space. That one is still in operation.

D and I were busy first thing this morning helping to set up the art show at the library. It meant unloading partitions from a vehicle in the parking lot. Bringing them into our display room and setting them up as directed for the paintings and framed art that was to arrive for the show. It became obvious to us after a short while that there were too many people trying to accomplish this task so we quietly took our leave. We had our lunch, then headed off to the flea market nearest our house.

This particular flea market appears as a set of greenhouses if one is viewing the site from the highway. There are long rows of cement pads, each with a corrugated metal roof above. The vendors are arranged along the sides under this canopy with a long center aisle down the middle to accomodate foot traffic.
There is a huge parking lot on the west side and it is circled with a gauge wire fence.

There is a huge selection of goods within the flea market. One can find local produce (fruit, vegetables, honey...) antiques, clothing, recreation vehicle supplies, lighting, hardware, used books, shoes, fast food....this one even has a little quilt store.

Today, I was looking for items made by local people. My two favourites to take home are hand crocheted cotton dishcloths and handmade 'scrubbies'. (potscrubbers crocheted from nylon nettting)

I've come home tired and thirsty. It's time for a nap!
