Alcester is an old Roman market town and has a rather good little museum. This is a mural on the wall outside by Andy Hazell . The words were found on a milestone in the town in the sixties and are a shortened form of

Flavio Valerio Constantino Pio Felici Invicto Augusto
Which means
For Flavius Valerius Constantinus the dutiful fortunate and unconquered emperor.

Apparently, Roman miles were shorter than modern miles. Perhaps they had shorter legs in those days.
