Aberdeen Conservation Area
The Cottage in the picture is the first of a line of cottages at Cottown of Balgownie, Bridge of Don, Aberdeen, which are in a conservation area. The picture was taken on the way home from work this afternoon.
This very distinctive settlement developed at the point where the road north through Old Aberdeen crossed the River Don. The layout of the houses is different at either end of the bridge. To the north the cottages are arranged as a fairly uniform terrace climbing up the steep slope of the river valley on the road name Cottown of Balgownie. On the south of the bridge the site permitted a more varied cluster of buildings. The 14th Century Brig O’Balgownie forms the centrepiece of the whole composition. As shown in a pervious picture published on the 24th January 2014.
