Walking Phnom Penh

So today was the first chance to properly explore and I set off on foot to tour the city, its many temples and pagoda complexes and get a general feel for the place.

I saw lots of temples and Buddhist monks on my wanderings through Wat Lanka, up to the Independence monument along to the prime minister's statue and through the parks to the Cambodia and Vietnam Monument, then Wat Botum. I walked past the Royal Palace and Silver pagoda and stopped for lunch at Costa coffee where I made good use of the free wifi.

I then into the national museum where I enjoyed looking at the statues and artefacts and purchased a ticket for one of the Cambodia Living arts shows for the evening.

Back to the hotel for a quick change and then back to the national museum for the show. It was based on the circle life and the rituals of Khmer life so a somewhat 'dry' show but interesting nonetheless. For dinner I headed to the FCC Foreign Correspondents Club

According to their website 'FCC has been the meeting place for intrepid adventurers, locals and visitors from around the world – where, in colonial settings perfect for conversation, good food and drink have always been the order of the day' and i would certainly agree with that, at the heart of the riverfront, the food was excellent and the building charming with great views.

So many pictures I took today, but this was possibly the shot that amused me most - modern monks at rest.. the rest are on the website
