A warning!

We have terrible plugs out here. They look just like the ones back in the UK but they are cheap Chinese rip offs. They even copy the "British Standards" number but no way would they pass British safety standards. The fuses don't blow. Instead the plug overheats and melts into the socket. This has happened so many times since we've lived here and it's not just my negligence, it's happened to lots of my friends. A lucky escape for one friend who went into her baby son's room before she went to bed and was horrified to see the socket in his room on fire. She couldn't rip the plug out as it had melted into the socket and had to turn off the entire house electrics!

This tends to happen when using high wattage items such as any sort of heating appliance, kettle, hair dryer or as in this case tumble dryer. So if you live somewhere where safety concerns are not that good, please be careful and learn from my mistakes, before it is too late.
