Tewkesbury in flood
The forecast was for a good sunny day today so we git up with the intention of getting out for a few hours.
Got the beemer out of the garage and gave it a run down to Tewkesbury, an hours drive. The last we saw of it was surrounded on all sides with flood water - The town is where the Avon joins the Severn, so, thankfully, much but by no means all the floods had subsided to allow much normal life to continue.
We walked down to the abbey - this is the land behind the abbey grounds. There is only a small stream here. In the middle of this water there is a car-park. Sticking out of the water you could just see the roof of a Land Rover Discovery. Water was lapping to within twelve inches of the top of the roof. I suspect it may be beyond economic repair.
Having had a wander around the abbey we stopped over the road at the Bay Tree directly opposite for some lunch. A nice leisurely stop, sat in the window table taking in the heat of the sun. The food is excellent quality, very freshly made and a decent price. I can recommend it if you visit.
A trip back via Broadway and an hours stop there to look around some of the shops. It seems we came away with a few items. Then, a nice drive back home getting here just before darkness.
A nice day.
More Tewkesbury images here including a nice shot of a chap walking pas the Bay Tree as we were on our way out. I wasn't sure which shot to use - this one or the one I've actually chosen.
I am a little bemused by the behaviour of Blip yesterday. While I only had one comment, I had 450+ hits, over 300 in less than an hour. Anyone any idea what that would happen? It's not that it got into the spotlight - I've never been so lucky.
