Bow and Stern

8.2C starting cloudy then brightening up very nicely indeed. Breezy.

Maeve the Deerhound and I went though to Arbroath and had our wander round the harbour about 9 this morning. It was half an hour after low tide so the lock gate to the inner basin was closed and we could walk round in a circular route. There were no boats in the outer basin.

After lunch we went for a walk down to the shore. There was lots of blue sky and with the sun discernibly higher in the sky so much more light and much better quality of light. There was a breeze but even so it felt mild. There was some standing water in the fields near the shore left over from last evening's several hours of monsoon like rain which Maeve and I saw running down the road from the church like a burn last night about midnight.

As we walked down towards the sea I could see, for the first time in ages, the colours in the water where the light was passing through and showing the sandy sea bed and darker areas over the rocks. Closer to the shore I could see light through the big breakers hitting the rocks and the beach and spray flying off the back of the waves. The sea was running up to the back of the beach so we had to get out timing right to get along without wet feet.

There were quite a few people out walking. Dogs too. We walked along to the fishermen's huts and then up by the cottages. The people from the end cottage were outside chatting to a couple who were passing by. Maeve and I stopped and joined the conversation. The man likes Maeve and wanted an update on her neck problem. Maeve likes the fuss but I have to give the neck update. Still on the anti inflammatories for the time being.

No 6 nations rugby today.
A gold medal for Team GB in the Winter Olympics in the ladies Skeleton. 80 mph downhill on a tin tray sled on ice head first. Very bold !
