Bouquets
As you may have seen one of the rather nice little finishing touches on being presented with a medal is the bouquet of flowers! The AOG is no exception!
The first historical record of the Olympic Games in 776BC dedicated to the gods and staged on the plains of Olympus told of the spectators throwing flowers at the victors. Immediately after the event a palm branch would be placed in their hands by a Greek judge and red ribbons tied to his hands and feet. In the final closing ceremony a sacred olive tree wreath was placed on the heads of the winners.
In keeping with tradition we still give a floral tribute to the medal winners which are held aloft and waved by the winners on the rostrum.
Perhaps these are my Valentine floral tribute, which I'm thrilled with, having got a medal for being married sooo very long ;)) Will wave them at you.........
Have a good evening everyone!!
