Still Here!

Say hello to 'Unruly'

I started to prepare my office for blip inspection in a week or two. The first out of the box is my faithful teddy, Unruly. Here you see it in all its splendour donning its adopted cap, presented to me by the Hong Kong Correctional (Prison) Service.

Now what's the story behind this splendid teddy. Some 10 years ago now I moved into a new office. Yes I have moved regularly at last count having had 11 offices since starting there in 1982. Well when I moved into this one there was this teddy. Left, abandoned, unwanted, unloved. I could not simply throw it out but I needed a name.

Well before I had chance to unpack I was met by my line manager who told me without ceremony that my research centre would no longer be in the Institute. We were to go back to the department. I had mixed feelings but was very angry with the manner of this delivery. The surname of my manager then was Lawless. As I work in the area of crime and as a reminder of this ignominy I christened teddy Unruly. Get it?

Anyway in my three subsequent moves since he has remained with me. Recently we moved, ironically, back into a different Institute and my line manager became again the same one. As you know from earlier blips I have not had an office since July awaiting the same manager's retirement at Xmas.
.
Now I am in my office, making it my own and the first ceremony is to unveil Unruly. I never did tell my former manager this story but my team do know him affectionately as Unruly and know the reference.

Hope you like him!

PSI. Quite liked this manager by the way but not that decision!
