Cape Agulhas

The most southerly point of Africa where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet. The name is Portuguese whose ships first sailed into the Indian Ocean from Europe. It means Cape of Needles because of the rocks here on which many ships have met their end. It also has ferocious storms and is known for its monster waves.

The point itself is unobtrusive, merely this monument. The setting is spectacular though with big waves even on quite a still day. Compared to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope it is a lonely site. I don't think many coach tours have it on their itinerary.
