Buriton village pond
I was lucky enough to be taken out to lunch for my Birthday today.
We stopped at Buriton, just outside Petersfield, to take a few photos as it had stopped raining. Apparently, water from the village pond was used for washing hops each year. A pump and tank with a special solution was pumped by traction engine to the hop gardens.
At the end of each working day horses were washed in the pond after working in the nearby chalk pits.
Today it is a pretty duck pond with the Norman church of St Mary's, in the background.
