Cailternis
A beautiful but forlorn spot. Today we spent a few hours exploring Cailterins - a small promontory about one kilometre by a half that is only about half a kilometre from our house as the crow flies - longer without a boat.
This croft was one of three right on the shore with a crafted and sheltered slipway, all now deserted and I suspect has been for some time. It would have been a hard life although there was a fair amount of land that had been cultivated, plenty of peat for fuel and the sea right there.
In the background of this image is Eaval again -- the highest hill on North Uist at a huge 347 metres. Always an impressive and distinctive shape, when it catches the sun, the colours are vibrant.
