Cute Chick!

We had a great time at the 3rd Annual Edison Bird Festival today -- a two-day happening featuring educational and whimsical events -- beginning with a latte and a delicious pastry at Tweets.

Thus fortified, we were able to enjoy several events before needing more sustenance. First was the Fowl Roller Skating Race -- chicken costumes strongly encouraged -- followed immediately by the Chicken Parade.

We spent some time mingling with the crowd, taking photographs, and viewed the art and custom furniture in the Smith and Vallee Gallery. If you love fine furniture, do take a look at their website.

Our educational (and very interesting) experience was a live raptor presentation by the Sarvey Wildlife Care Center which included a Barn owl, Peregrine Falcon, Red-tailed Hawk, Golden Eagle, and Bald Eagle. Sarvey's mission is to treat injured wild creatures until they can be released in their natural habitat.

The birds that they use for demonstrations are one that would no longer be able to fend for themselves due to physical limitations or because they never learned how to hunt for prey.

Before heading home, we stopped at the Bread Farm and each had a small baguette sandwich.

P.S. I posted a few photos on Flickr. Cynthia has written more about our day out in her blip.
