Cheeks or Tails?
These are bee eaters.
At first I thought they were green bee eaters. But it turns out they look much more like blue-tailed bee eaters...or maybe blue-cheeked bee eaters. These cheery and incredibly active/loud little chirpers descend onto the tree outside my balcony every evening just after sundown. We are right at eye level with one another, but I have been thwarted in my attempt to get a photo of them by the time of day and by the screen that stands between us. Today, I was allowed to pick my way across the rooftop around solar panels, water tanks, and assorted containers, wires and other things I could never place, to look down upon the emerald creatures. I took 40+ photos. Almost none of which came out. I desperately need a "bird lens" like ezhighway who takes the most incredible pics if you haven't seen them.
Coming back along the rooftop, the sky to the south reflects the smoke from the petrol fires still burning 10 kilometers south of the city.
