Losing things in a storm

Losing things in a storm

When I left my house today to go and meet a friend for a cuppa I found an abandoned black, work but not redundant flip flop on my front lawn!

I generally love abandoned things in streets and always wonder about their story, why are they there?, what caused them to be abandoned? but this lonely rubber summer shoe just baffled me.

We've had some pretty rough days and nights here in South Wales over the last month, we seem to be in the middle of a constant storm, our rivers are swollen like heavily pregnant ladies all uncomfortable and trying to fit into spaces not designed for their new size and our coast line is battered and bruised from a crash of nature and man made defences designed to form a barrier against our beautiful yet enraged sea.

Everyday our city population fights through blowing sand, sideways rain and the tease of shall or shall I not take out an umbrella!! Were all looking from our house, car or office windows, desperate to escape but not wanting to face the outside fight against the elements unless it includes high carb foods or alcohol!

I love cold winter days and I love summer stormy skies but relentless dark stormy wet days are the stuff of my nightmares. I'm definitely not getting enough sun.

The irony of a memory of summer sun and dry cloudless days on the beach being dumped by the wind was just a step too far. It was as if the shoe had been placed there by the universe to tell me I should be on a beach somewhere during my time off work not spending it here in the cold damp air. For now I can only dream of the warm sand between my toes and the hot sun on my back as I absorb the rays of our closest star.
